This River Plate Alario jersey 2016/17 special edition orange is one of the most unique shirts released by Adidas during the Marcelo Gallardo era. The orange and black design was officially launched as a tribute to the legendary 1986 Superclásico against Boca Juniors, when River Plate celebrated the title at La Bombonera using the iconic orange ball. The shirt references one of the most memorable moments in River Plate history and honors Norberto Alonso, who famously scored with the orange ball during that historic match.

River Plate remained one of the strongest clubs in South America during the 2016/17 season. Under Marcelo Gallardo, the team competed for domestic honors while continuing to build one of the most successful squads in the club’s modern era. Lucas Alario joined River Plate in 2015 from Colón de Santa Fe for a reported fee of around €2 million. During his time at the club (2015–2017), he made more than 80 appearances and scored over 40 goals, becoming one of the team’s most important strikers. In 2017, he transferred to Bayer Leverkusen for a reported fee of around €24 million. Alario played a major role in River Plate’s domestic and continental success during this period.
